भगवद गीता अध्याय 16 श्लोक 9
Bhagavad Gita Adhyay 16 Shlok 9 में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने बताया है कि आसुरी लोग, जिन्होंने आत्म-ज्ञान खो दिया है और जो अल्पबुद्धि हैं, वे उग्र कर्मों में प्रवृत्त होकर जगत् के विनाश के हेतु बनते हैं।
श्लोक:
एतां दृष्टिमवष्टभ्य नष्टात्मानोऽल्पबुद्धयः ।
प्रभवन्त्युग्रकर्माणः क्षयाय जगतोऽहिताः ॥ ९॥
Transliteration:
etāṁ dṛiṣhṭim avaṣhṭabhya naṣhṭātmāno ’lpa-buddhayaḥ
prabhavanty ugra-karmāṇaḥ kṣhayāya jagato ’hitāḥ
अर्थ:
ऐसे निष्कर्षों का अनुगमन करते हुए आसुरी लोग, जिन्होंने आत्म-ज्ञान खो दिया है और जो बुद्धिहीन हैं, ऐसे अनुपयोगी एवं भयावह कार्यों में प्रवृत्त होते हैं, जो संसार का विनाश करने के लिए होता है।
Meaning:
Clinging to such views, the demoniac-who have lost their self-knowledge and who are of small intelligence-engage in unbeneficial, horrible acts meant to destroy the world.
तात्पर्य:
आसुरी लोग ऐसे कार्यों में व्यस्त रहते हैं, जिनसे संसार का विनाश हो जाये। भगवान् यहाँ कहते हैं कि वे कम बुद्धि वाले हैं। भौतिकवादी, जिन्हें ईश्वर का कोई बोध नहीं होता, सोचते हैं कि वे प्रगति कर रहे हैं। लेकिन भगवद्गीता के अनुसार वे बुद्धिहीन तथा समस्त विचारों से शून्य होते हैं। वे इस भौतिक जगत् का अधिक से अधिक भोग करने का प्रयत्न करते हैं, अतएव इन्द्रियतृप्ति के लिए वे कुछ न कुछ नया आविष्कार करते रहते हैं। ऐसे भौतिक आविष्कारों को मानव सभ्यता का विकास माना जाता है, लेकिन इसका दुष्परिणाम यह होता है कि लोग अधिकाधिक हिंसक तथा क्रूर होते जाते हैं-वे पशुओं के प्रति क्रूर हो जाते हैं और अन्य मनुष्यों के प्रति भी। उन्हें इसका कोई ज्ञान नहीं कि एक-दूसरे से किस प्रकार व्यवहार किया जाय। आसुरी लोगों में पशुवध अत्यन्त प्रधान होता है।
ऐसे लोग संसार के शत्रु समझे जाते हैं, क्योंकि वे अन्ततः ऐसा आविष्कार कर लेंगे या कुछ ऐसी सृष्टि कर देंगे, जिससे सबका विनाश हो जाय। अप्रत्यक्षतः यह श्लोक नाभिकीय अस्त्रों के आविष्कार की पूर्व सूचना देता है, जिसका आज सारे विश्व को गर्व है। किसी भी क्षण युद्ध हो सकता है और ये परमाणु हथियार विनाशलीला उत्पन्न कर सकते हैं। ऐसी वस्तुएँ संसार के विनाश के उद्देश्य से ही उत्पन्न की जाती हैं और यहाँ पर इसका संकेत किया गया है। ईश्वर के प्रति अविश्वास के कारण ही ऐसे हथियारों का आविष्कार मानव समाज में किया जाता है-वे संसार की शान्ति तथा सम्पन्नता के लिए नहीं होते।
The demoniac are always engaged in activities that lead to the destruction of the world. Here the Lord states that they are of small intelligence. Materialists, devoid of any sense of God, think they are making progress, but according to the Bhagavad Gita, they are foolish and devoid of sound judgment. Their only aim is to exploit this world as much as possible, and for sense gratification they constantly invent new things. These so-called inventions are hailed as advancement of human civilization, but the consequence is that people become increasingly violent and cruel-both toward animals and fellow human beings. They lack the knowledge of how to properly behave with one another. Slaughter of animals is central among the demoniac.
Such persons are enemies of the world, for ultimately they will invent or create something that brings total destruction. Indirectly, this verse foretells the invention of nuclear weapons, which the modern world is so proud of. At any moment, war could break out, and these weapons can unleash devastating ruin. These inventions are created with destruction in mind, not for peace or prosperity. Because of disbelief in God, such weapons arise in human society-they are never meant for the true welfare of the world.
