भगवद गीता अध्याय 2 श्लोक 42-43
Bhagavad Gita Adhyay 2 Shlok 42-43 में श्रीकृष्ण उन अल्पज्ञ लोगों की बुद्धि की ओर संकेत करते हैं, जो वेदों के कर्मकांड भाग में फंसे रहते हैं और स्वर्ग, इन्द्रियतृप्ति तथा ऐश्वर्य की प्राप्ति को ही सब कुछ मान लेते हैं।
श्लोक:
यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः ।
वेदवादरता: पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः ॥४२॥
कामात्मानः स्वर्गपरा जन्मकर्मफलप्रदाम् ।
क्रियाविशेषबहुलां भोगैश्वर्यगतिं प्रति ॥४३॥
Transliteration:
yāmimāṁ puṣhpitāṁ vāchaṁ pravadanty-avipaśhchitaḥ
veda-vāda-ratāḥ pārtha nānyad astīti vādinaḥ
kāmātmānaḥ swarga-parā janma-karma-phala-pradām
kriyā-viśheṣha-bahulāṁ bhogaiśhwarya-gatiṁ prati
अर्थ:
अल्पज्ञानी मनुष्य वेदों के उन अलंकारिक शब्दों के प्रति अत्यधिक आसक्त रहते हैं, जो स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति, अच्छे जन्म, शक्ति इत्यादि के लिए विविध सकाम कर्म करने की संस्तुति करते हैं। इन्द्रियतृप्ति तथा ऐश्वर्यमय जीवन की अभिलाषा के कारण वे कहते हैं कि इससे बढ़कर और कुछ नहीं है।
Meaning:
Unwise persons, enchanted by the flowery words of the Vedas, remain attached to ritualistic ceremonies and claim there is nothing beyond them. They are full of desires, aiming for heaven, seeking sense gratification and opulent life, which results in rebirth and material enjoyment.
तात्पर्य:
साधारणत: सब लोग अत्यन्त बुद्धिमान् नहीं होते और वे अज्ञान के कारण वेदों के कर्मकाण्ड भाग में बताये गये सकाम कर्मों के प्रति अत्यधिक आसक्त रहते हैं। वे स्वर्ग में जीवन का आनन्द उठाने के लिए इन्द्रियतृप्ति कराने वाले प्रस्तावों से अधिक और कुछ नहीं चाहते, जहाँ मदिरा तथा तरुणियाँ उपलब्ध हैं और भौतिक ऐश्वर्य सर्वसामान्य है। वेदों में स्वर्गलोक पहुँचने के लिए अनेक यज्ञों की संस्तुति है, जिनमें ज्योतिष्टोम यज्ञ प्रमुख है।
वास्तव में वेदों में कहा गया है कि जो स्वर्ग जाना चाहता है उसे ये यज्ञ सम्पन्न करने चाहिए और अल्पज्ञानी पुरुष सोचते हैं कि वैदिक ज्ञान का सारा अभिप्राय इतना ही है। ऐसे लोगों के लिए कृष्णभावनामृत के दृढ़ कर्म में स्थित हो पाना अत्यन्त कठिन है। जिस प्रकार मूर्ख लोग विषैले वृक्षों के फूलों के प्रति बिना यह जाने कि इस आकर्षण का फल क्या होगा, आसक्त रहते हैं उसी प्रकार अज्ञानी व्यक्ति स्वर्गिक ऐश्वर्य तथा तज्जनित इन्द्रियभोग के प्रति आकृष्ट रहते हैं।
Generally, people are not very intelligent, and due to ignorance they become attracted by the flowery words of the Vedas which recommend various fruitive activities for elevation to heavenly realms. They desire only sense gratification and a luxurious life in heaven, where wine and women are available and material opulence is common. The Vedas recommend many sacrifices for elevation to heavenly planets, the foremost being the Jyotistoma sacrifice. Indeed, it is said that anyone desiring to rise to heavenly planets should perform these sacrifices. The less intelligent think that the purpose of the Vedas is merely this. For such people, firm determination in Krishna consciousness is very difficult. Just as foolish people are attracted to the flowers of a poisonous tree without knowing their eventual consequences, similarly, ignorant persons are attracted to heavenly pleasures and sense gratification which only lead to repeated birth and death.
