भगवद गीता अध्याय 7 श्लोक 16
Bhagavad Gita Adhyay 7 Shlok 16 में श्रीकृष्ण बताते हैं कि चार प्रकार के पुण्यात्मा लोग भगवान की भक्ति करते हैं - आर्त, जिज्ञासु, अर्थार्थी और ज्ञानी।
श्लोक:
चतुर्विधा भजन्ते मां जनाः सुकृतिनोऽर्जुन।
आर्तो जिज्ञासुरर्थार्थी ज्ञानी च भरतर्षभ॥१६॥
Transliteration:
chatur-vidhā bhajante māṁ janāḥ sukṛitino ’rjuna
ārto jijñāsur arthārthī jñānī cha bharatarṣhabha
अर्थ:
हे भरतश्रेष्ठ! चार प्रकार के पुण्यात्मा मेरी सेवा करते हैं- आर्त, जिज्ञासु, अर्थार्थी तथा ज्ञानी।
Meaning:
O best among the Bharatas, four kinds of pious men begin to render devotional service unto Me - the distressed, the inquisitive, the seeker of material gain, and the wise one who is searching for knowledge of the Absolute.
तात्पर्य:
दुष्कृती के सर्वथा विपरीत ऐसे लोग हैं, जो शास्त्रीय विधि-विधानों का दृढ़ता से पालन करते हैं और ये सुकृतिनः कहलाते हैं अर्थात् ये वे लोग हैं, जो शास्त्रीय विधि-विधानों, नैतिक तथा सामाजिक नियमों को मानते हैं और परमेश्वर प्रति न्यूनाधिक भक्ति करते हैं।
इन लोगों की चार श्रेणियाँ हैं -
- वे जो पीड़ित हैं (आर्त),
- वे जिन्हें धन की आवश्यकता है (अर्थार्थी),
- वे जिन्हें जिज्ञासा है (जिज्ञासु),
- और वे जिन्हें परम सत्य का ज्ञान है (ज्ञानी)।
ये सारे लोग विभिन्न परिस्थितियों में परमेश्वर की भक्ति करते रहते हैं। ये शुद्ध भक्त नहीं हैं, क्योंकि ये भक्ति के बदले कुछ महत्त्वाकांक्षाओं की पूर्ति करना चाहते हैं।
शुद्ध भक्ति निष्काम होती है और उसमें किसी लाभ की आकांक्षा नहीं रहती।
Opposite to the miscreants are those who follow the scriptural rules and are called sukṛtinaḥ - pious men. These people generally follow moral and social regulations and show varying degrees of devotion to the Lord.
There are four types of such pious devotees:
- Ārtaḥ – the distressed,
- Arthārthī – the one seeking wealth,
- Jijñāsuḥ – the inquisitive, and
- Jñānī – the one in search of Absolute Truth.
All these worship the Supreme Lord in various circumstances. However, they are not pure devotees, because they are motivated by some desire or need.
Pure devotional service is free of material motives and is rendered without any selfish desire for gain.
